The LPPD Bootcamp™
The LPPD Bootcamp™ course delivers a dynamic, hands-on experience in applying Lean Product and Process Development (LPPD) principles and tools within a simulated product development environment.
The course is designed to achieve the following objectives:
- Understand the cross-functional nature of effective product development.
- Experience how cross-functional collaboration accelerates project timelines.
- Learn why “Shift Left” (front-loading) minimizes late-stage issues and delays.
- Discover how transparency and early problem identification prevent major challenges.
- Learn how applying Target Ranges and Set-Based Design to product design, manufacturing, and marketing drives superior outcomes.
- Learn how to design product, process and go-to-market program concurrently to significantly reduce project timelines.
Participants form cross-functional “companies” of 13–20 members, each tasked with developing a transport vehicle from concept to production using a robust LPPD-based process. Two competing “companies” design their vehicles under real-world constraints, such as tooling costs, lead times, material limitations, and target performance ranges.
The “company” structure mirrors real product development teams, with executives, middle managers, and individual contributors filling roles aligned with their actual functions, ensuring an authentic and immersive learning experience.

Participants will develop a concept paper, define a go-to-market strategy, design innovative transport vehicles, redesign the manufacturing system, produce 10 “production” vehicles, and finally, compete to demonstrate performance of their new product and production system. Through these activities, they gain practical experience with LPPD tools including Andon, Milestones, Integration Events, Obeya Rooms, Concurrent Development, Product Architecture, and Set-Based Design.
